Political tension is rising in Osun State as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) engage in a war of words over an alleged consensus list purportedly produced by the opposition party ahead of the 2026 governorship and 2027 general elections.
The PDP, in a statement issued on Sunday by its state chairman, Sunday Bisi, claimed that the leaked list showed the APC was in crisis over the alleged sharing of major elective positions among its members.
Bisi described the development as a sign of “confusion and desperation” within the APC.
The purported list, titled “REVEALED: APC CONSENSUS LIST FOR 2026/2027 RACE,” circulated across several WhatsApp platforms, allegedly allocated key positions within the party. According to the document, the Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Bola Oyebamiji, was listed as the consensus governorship candidate, while Remi Omowaiye, a former Commissioner for Works and now Executive Director (Project Implementation) at the Federal Housing Authority, was named as the deputy governorship candidate.
The document also listed the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, former APC National Secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore, and Chairman of Mutual Benefits Assurance, Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi, as consensus candidates for Osun Central, Osun East, and Osun West senatorial districts, respectively.
However, in a swift reaction, the APC dismissed the list as fake, accusing the ruling PDP of fabricating it to create tension within the opposition party.
The APC spokesperson, Kola Olabisi, described the alleged list as “a product of drunken imaginations,” adding that it was part of the PDP’s plan to destabilise the opposition ahead of the polls.
“Our party did not compile any consensus list. The one in circulation is a product of drunken imaginations designed to cause disunity among our aspirants. What is clear is that any of our governorship aspirants is capable of sending Governor Ademola Adeleke back to Atlanta or wherever he came from. This attempt at mischief is dead on arrival,” Olabisi said.
But PDP chairman Bisi maintained that the next elections would be decided by performance, not propaganda, insisting that Osun people could distinguish between “hardship and hope.”
“Osun people have experienced governance under both parties and are proudly standing with the PDP — the party that has restored light, dignity, and direction through IMOLE,” Bisi stated.
He added that the PDP’s support base remained strong among workers, pensioners, traders, students, and professionals, attributing it to the administration’s record of regular salary payments, prompt pensions, and restored respect in the civil service.
Describing the alleged APC consensus arrangement as “a recycled plan of tired and deceitful politicians,” Bisi said the state would not return to “its years of retrogression.”
