NSF: OGUN BEGINS RECONSTRUCTION WORKS IN SPORTING FACILITIES - The Alternative News

 


Ahead of the National Sports Festival tagged, "2024 GATEWAY GAMES", holding between January 12 and January 26, 2025, the Ogun State government has commenced reconstruction and renovation of MKO Abiola International Stadium, Kuto and Alake Sports Centre, Ijeja, Abeokuta.

Speaking after inspecting the two facilities, Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon. Wasiu Isiaka said the renovation would be completed within the stipulated time, and tested before the games.


Hon. Isiaka disclosed that scraping of the pitch and removal of the tartan tracks at the mainbowl of the stadium was ongoing, saying its VIP section would be increased, while construction of new sporting  facilities, such as an olympic-sized swimming pool, tennis and handball courts would also be carried out, adding that removal of dilapidated roofs at the indoor hall of Alake Sports Centre, Ijeja was on course.

The Commissioner restated the state government’s commitment to hold a befitting festival, as standardised facilities would be put in place to attract National and International events, noting that young athletes had been discovered and nurtured to represent the state.

"Ogun State is making effort on the successful hosting of the 2024 National Sports Festival, and I assure you that the MKO Abiola Stadium, which is under a major renovation will be completed in due time, as part of the state government's strides to boost sports tourism for economic growth", he said.
