It is essential to reposition and strengthen the Local Government, due to its critical role in the implementation of government objectives, policies and programmes, with direct impact on wellbeing of the people at the grassroots.
The Ogun State Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, made this known at the Obas' Complex, Oke- Mosan, Abeokuta., while delivering a keynote address at a public lecture marking the 2024 Local Government Service week, with the theme, "Repositioning Local Government Service to a point of reference in the Public Service".
Mr. Onasanya said administration at the local government level was to ensure grassroots development, serving as a bridge between citizens and the broader objectives of governance, adding that theme of the event aligned with the ongoing efforts of Prince Dapo Abiodun led-administration, to enhance public service delivery at all tiers of government.
He urged the Local Government administrators to make good use of the autonomy granted to them by the Federal Government, to increase Internally Generated Revenue, for the growth and development of the council areas in the state.
Earlier in her address, the Chairman, Local Government Service Commission, Ms. Olubunkonla Onabanjo, said Local Government was a reference point at ensuring public service delivery, appreciating Governor Dapo Abiodun for his moral and financial support to the 20 LGs in the state.
In his goodwill message, the Olowu of Owu, Oba (Prof.) Saka Matemilola commended the efforts of the Local Government Service Commission for organising the week, urging its staffers to take advantage of the new status to improve their service delivery at the grassroots.
Also speaking, Permanent Secretary, Local Government Service Commission, Engr. Adenike Ogunbona appreciated Governor Abiodun for his immense contributions to the growth of the Local Government in the state, and the Head of Service for his leadership role and human resource development initiative.
