In a bid to enhance leadership and resource management skills within the education sector, the Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) in collaboration with Bureau of Public Service Reform (BPSR) has organised a-day workshop themed, “Leadership and Administration of Resource Management.”
The workshop which attracted Directors and Heads of Departments across the twenty Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs) in the State, took place at NUT Hall, Kuto, Abeokuta.
Declaring the workshop opened, State Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Public Service Reform, Mr. Jola Oyeleye, stated that the training would have positive impact in the daily routine of the participants so as to Cascade it down to their subordinates.
Onasanya charged the participants to contribute meaningfully to the system, urging them to manage public resources prudently and ensure that, they leave a worthy legacy that would further promote service delivery within the civil service.
In their keynote addresses, Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Mrs. Ronke Soyombo emphasised the importance of continuous capacity building to sharpen the minds of education officers, stating that enhancing Officers’ competencies were critical to achieving optimal performance and delivering quality service in the basic education sector.
Participants were encouraged to uphold high standards and work collectively towards actualising the mission and vision of SUBEB, advising the participants to cascade the knowledge gained from the workshop to their respective offices for broader institutional impact.
In his address, Board Secretary of SUBEB, Mr. Mikhail Lawal, expressed appreciation to the Governor of Ogun State for his unwavering commitment for the development of basic education, noting that the Governor’s support had been instrumental to the Board’s numerous achievements and initiatives aimed at elevating educational standards in the State.
In his paper presentation titled "Understanding Public Service Extant Book and Their Implications," Director of Speech Production in the State, Mr. Bode Sotoyinbo implored all the participants to acquaint themselves with the Statutory books which includes, Financial Regulations, Public Service Rules, among others, so as to know the rules and regulations that guide their careers, service, know their right and limit as Civil Servants.
Another resource person, the Executive Secretary, Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board (CPWB), Mr. Yemi Oduyemi delivered his lecture titled "Strengthening Institutional Collaboration For Achieving Organisational Goals”, said it was pertinent to increase the knowledge and collaborate effectively to achieve desired result, urging the participants to maximise the value and be an agents of positive change.
