Nigeria’s Super Falcons delivered a dominant performance on Friday, overpowering Zambia 5–0 in their WAFCON 2025 quarter-final clash to book a place in the semi-finals of the tournament.
The match, held at the Mohammed V Stadium, saw an explosive start as Osinachi Ohale opened the scoring in the 2nd minute, heading in from a well-delivered set-piece.
Nigeria doubled the lead shortly after, when Esther Okoronkwo calmly converted a low cross from Rasheedat Ajibade. The 11-time African champions continued to apply pressure, with Chinwendu Ihezuo netting the third goal after latching onto a long ball from goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie and finishing with composure.
The Falcons resumed the second half with the same intensity. Okoronkwo turned provider once again, delivering a pinpoint free-kick that was headed home by Tosin Demehin to make it 4–0.
The rout was completed when Folashade Ijamilusi, making her tournament debut, scored her first international goal with a close-range tap-in, once again assisted by the ever-energetic Ajibade.
With the emphatic victory, Nigeria advances to the semi-finals of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, as they continue their pursuit of a record-extending 12th title.
The team’s next opponent will be determined after the conclusion of the remaining quarter-final fixtures.
