Minister of Works and former Ebonyi State Governor, Senator David Umahi, has called on the Southeast to deliver at least 90% of its votes to President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, arguing that such overwhelming support is key to the region’s future chances of producing a Nigerian president.
Speaking in a recent statement, Umahi emphasized that political strategy, not sentiment, must guide the Southeast's aspirations. He cautioned against misleading narratives suggesting the region could produce a president in 2027.
"We must not be deceived again. Enough of darkening counsel without knowledge in the Southeast. We must rise to educate our people,” Umahi said.
Referencing the 2023 general election in which Labour Party candidate Peter Obi dominated the Southeast vote, Umahi urged the region to reconsider its approach and align with national interests.
He commended President Tinubu for what he described as “unwavering love and fairness” toward the Southeast and insisted that reciprocating that goodwill in 2027 would strengthen the region’s political capital.
"If we want to be President, we must avoid the politics of hate, misinformation, and sentiments. One day, we will be number one, but not in 2027," Umahi declared.
He also praised Southeast governors for aligning with federal initiatives and encouraged voters to support both the governors and President Tinubu for second terms.
