JUST IN: Tinubu Rewards D’Tigress Players with $100,000, House, National Honour - The Alternative News

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced a series of lavish rewards for the Nigerian women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, following their recent victory at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Championship.

Each player will receive a cash gift of $100,000, a new apartment, and the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON). The team’s coaches are also to receive $50,000 each for their contributions to the team’s success.

The gesture is in recognition of the team's outstanding performance and championship win, marking yet another historic milestone for Nigeria in African women’s basketball.

The announcement comes just days after a similar $100,000 reward to the Super Falcons sparked public debate. The Falcons had recently won the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

President Tinubu’s latest reward package signals a continued emphasis on recognizing excellence in Nigerian sports, particularly women’s teams representing the nation on the continental stage.
