Renowned Beninese international striker, Razak Omotoyossi, has died at the age of 38, authorities in Benin have confirmed. The cause of his death has not yet been disclosed.

Born in Nigeria, Omotoyossi chose to represent Benin at international level, where he became one of the nation’s most celebrated footballers. He earned 55 caps and scored 21 goals for the Squirrels, ranking among the country’s all-time leading scorers.

He rose to continental prominence during the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, where he scored all four goals in Benin’s 4–1 victory over Togo, finishing as joint top scorer of the campaign alongside Cameroonian legend Samuel Eto’o.

At club level, Omotoyossi’s career spanned several countries. He played in Sweden for Helsingborgs IF, featuring in the UEFA Champions League, before joining FC Metz in France. His professional journey also took him to clubs in South Africa, Libya, Egypt, Syria, and Moldova.

Celebrated for his tireless work ethic and sharp finishing, Omotoyossi was remembered for his commitment to the sport and his choice to represent Benin over his country of birth.
