In a surprising political shift, the Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced its support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second-term bid in the 2027 general elections.
The state PDP chairman, Abayomi Tella, made the declaration on Monday during the official campaign flag-off of Bolarinwa Oluwole, the PDP candidate for the Remo Federal Constituency by-election, held at the palace of the Akarigbo of Remo in Sagamu.
Tella justified the party’s endorsement, noting that President Tinubu is a son of the South-West and deserves regional support.
“We are going to support him. We will give him our votes. All we want in that election is fairness and justice,” he stated.
Also speaking at the event, the party’s 2023 gubernatorial candidate, Ladi Adebutu, echoed similar sentiments. He clarified that the PDP’s grievances lie with governance in Ogun State, not with Tinubu’s leadership at the federal level.
“I was with the President in January and I told him we have no issue with his leadership and candidacy. Our issue is with bad governance in Ogun State,” Adebutu said.
The endorsement marks a rare show of bipartisan support and could significantly influence the political dynamics in the South-West ahead of the 2027 elections.
