Wike Insists South-South Congress Must Stand, Reveals Conditions for Peace in PDP - The Alternative News

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has outlined a key condition for restoring peace within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), declaring that the South-South zonal congress held in Calabar must be recognized and upheld.

Speaking during his monthly media parley in Abuja on Monday, Wike emphasized that the congress, which produced Chief Dan Orbih as the National Vice Chairman (South-South), was conducted lawfully and sanctioned by the courts.

“Our South-South zonal congress that was held must be upheld. There’s no doubt, no two words about it,” Wike stated firmly.

He took aim at the PDP's Acting National Chairman, who had previously claimed that governors in the party were not in support of the congress. “Where are the PDP governors now?” Wike asked pointedly.

The minister maintained that the legal backing of the congress makes any objection irrelevant. “The Court allowed for the congress to hold, and there’s nothing anybody can tell us,” he added.

Wike’s comments come amid internal wranglings in the PDP, with factions vying for control and influence ahead of the 2027 general elections. His insistence on validating the outcome of the zonal congress signals a critical stance that could shape the direction of party reconciliation efforts.
