Health Relief For Ogun Retirees: LG, SUBEB Pensioners Get Free Coverage - The Alternative News

 



Towards living a meaningful and healthy life after retirement, the Ogun State Government, through the Ogun State Health Insurance Agency (OGSHIA), has commenced free health insurance registration exercise for retirees of Local Government (LG) and the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).

Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Local Government Pensions, Engr. Olufisan Osiyale, disclosed this while speaking with Journalists in his office at Oke- Mosan, Abeokuta, saying the registration exercise was in line with the introduction and approval of ‘Ogun State Retirees Health Insurance Scheme (OGRHIS), by the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, a decision that  had shown the present administration's commitment to promoting healthy living of retirees of Local Government and State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).

 He posited that the scheme availed the senior citizens an opportunity to benefit from this laudable gesture at no cost, commended the State government for the bold initiative.

Also speaking, Executive Secretary, Ogun State Health Insurance Agency (OGSHIA), Dr. Afolabi Dosumu, said senior citizens were the set of people that really needed the health insurance scheme, noting that they were already within the age bracket in which they could start experiencing varying age- related diseases, noting the scheme was timely and would be of immense benefit to the retirees.

Dr. Dosumu, further enumerated the twenty-nine enrolment centres for LG pensioners that included; Owu Baptist Primary School, Ita Iyalode; St. Peters Primary School, Ake; St. Micheal Primary School, Ota; NUD Primary School, Agbado; RCMI Primary School, Ifo; others are Abusi Edumare Primary School, Ijebu Igbo; Adeola Odutola Primary School, Ijebu Ode; AUD Primary School, Imeko; African Church Primary School, Ayetoro; NUD Primary School Ogidan, Owode Egba among others.

The OGSHIA boss further explained that retirees were not restricted to a particular enrollment site, but could use any of the sites closest to them, as their age and comfortability were considered to make the exercise seamless for them.

Dr. Dosunmu revealed that the exercise commenced on Monday, June 29, 2026 and would run till Friday, July 3, 2026.

He commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for his relentless effort at making life easier for retirees, stating that the large turnout of the pensioners was an indication that they appreciate this outstanding initiative.

Reacting, the State Chairman, Local Government Pensioners Association of Nigeria (LOGPAN), Pastor Benedict Ademoye, said the free health insurance scheme could be viewed as a longevity mechanism for retirees.

Speaking in the same vein, 2 senior citizens, Mrs. Abosede Oduntan and Mr. Sunday Ogunbayo, were unanimous in their commendation for the humane gesture of the present dispensation under the pensioner - friendly Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun.
