Michelle Alozie was selected for a routine doping test following her outstanding performance in Nigeria’s 1-0 victory over Zambia women's national team in their second Group C match at the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations.

The 29-year-old defender confirmed after the match that she underwent the mandatory random drug test, a standard procedure in major tournaments.

Alozie delivered a commanding display, playing the full 90 minutes and earning the Woman of the Match award for her defensive brilliance and relentless energy. Her performance was crucial in helping the Super Falcons hold firm despite being reduced to 10 players for over 50 minutes after Blessing Demehin was sent off for denying Barbara Banda a clear goal-scoring opportunity.

Originally deployed at right-back, Alozie was later switched to the left side in a tactical adjustment and made several key interceptions and clearances. Her efforts ensured that Zambia managed only two shots on target throughout the encounter.

Despite her heroics, Alozie remained modest, attributing the victory to a collective team effort, especially following Nigeria’s earlier 3-2 loss to Malawi women's national team.

“Yes, that [the drug testing] is true, but I don’t really know if I really deserve the Woman of the Match award. I think it was really a team effort and we came out on top today,” she said.

Nigeria will face Egypt women's national team in their final Group C fixture on August 5, where a win will secure qualification for the quarter-finals.
