Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested Esther Ogunmabo, a 101-year-old woman, for allegedly dealing in illicit drugs in Ogun State.
In a statement on Sunday, Femi Babafemi, NDLEA director of media and advocacy, said the centenarian was arrested on Saturday in the Ilisan area of the state with 90 grammes of skunk, a strain of cannabis, packaged in retail sachets.
Babafemi said Ogunmabo claimed she sold the substance to locals after her provisions shop was destroyed by fire.
According to the statement, one of her daughters, who resides in Lagos, allegedly supplied her with the cannabis every four days, which she then sold in small quantities.
Mohamed Marwa, NDLEA chairman and chief executive officer, directed that the suspect be granted bail and placed on counselling due to her age. Her daughter was also arrested.
