Former First Lady Aisha Buhari has visited former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar in Abuja as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Atiku, who is the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), disclosed the meeting in a social media post on Wednesday, describing Aisha’s visit as “warm and deeply appreciated.”

Neither Atiku nor Aisha publicly disclosed the purpose of the meeting or details of their discussion.

However, Atiku said the encounter reminded him of the responsibility facing those seeking to lead Nigeria, particularly the need to prioritise the welfare and dignity of citizens.

“Today, I was delighted to receive former First Lady, Aisha Buhari. Her visit was warm and deeply appreciated,” Atiku said.

He also highlighted the economic pressures facing Nigerian households, citing the rising costs of food, transportation, education, healthcare and other essential needs.

According to Atiku, Nigeria needs an economy that rewards hard work, restores opportunities and enables families to live with dignity and hope.

He said his objective was to reduce pressure on households, restore hope and “Make Nigeria Affordable Again.”

Aisha Buhari was accompanied by one of her daughters and some associates during the visit.

The meeting comes against the backdrop of increasing political realignments and consultations ahead of the 2027 elections, although there is no public confirmation from either party that the visit represents a political endorsement or alliance.
