The Ogun State chapter of the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN) has announced the death of Nollywood actress Atinuke Remilekun Kareem, who died after battling breast cancer.

Kareem’s death was announced on Tuesday by her colleague and TAMPAN Ogun State Governor, Owolabi Ajasa, through a statement shared on his Instagram page.

The announcement was accompanied by a video in which the actress appealed for financial assistance and prayers as she battled the disease.

In the video, Kareem disclosed that she had been battling breast cancer for some time and that her family had spent considerable funds on her treatment.

“I’m a breast cancer patient. It has been going on for a while. My family has spent a lot of money; I’ve come to seek help. The association I belong to, TAMPAN, has tried too, but it’s not enough,” she said.

Appealing to Nigerians for support, the actress added:

“Don’t allow me to die this way; I have two young children. Nigerians, please help me with any amount you can use to help.”

In a statement signed by TAMPAN Ogun State Public Relations Officer, Femi Solaja, on behalf of Ajasa, the association expressed appreciation to colleagues, fans and well-wishers who supported Kareem financially and emotionally during her illness.

The association said the contributions, prayers and encouragement offered during her treatment meant a lot to the actress, her family and the association.

TAMPAN also expressed deep sorrow over her death, describing it as a painful and irreparable loss.

“Sadly, despite all our efforts and prayers, Atinuke has passed on and answered the final call.

“We cannot question the Almighty God. We can only submit to His will and pray that He grants her eternal rest and gives her family, colleagues and loved ones the strength to bear this painful loss,” the statement said.

The association concluded by praying for the eternal rest of the actress.

Kareem’s death comes barely over a week after the Yoruba film industry was thrown into mourning following the death of veteran actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, who was also reported to have battled stage-four cancer.
