Bandits Allegedly Attack Operation Burst Base in Oyo, Burn Patrol Van - The Alternative News

Armed bandits have reportedly attacked an Operation Burst security base located within a forest reserve along the Igbeti–Igboho axis in Oorelope Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The attack occurred between 5:30am and 6:00am on Sunday, September 13, 2026, according to a security update from the Oorelope Local Government Command.

The command said it received a distress call that armed men had invaded the security base, prompting the immediate mobilisation of its personnel alongside operatives from other security agencies.
However, the security team reportedly arrived after the attackers had fled the scene.

Preliminary findings indicated that the assailants stormed the base in large numbers and opened fire on security personnel with powerful weapons. They were also suspected of attempting to overrun the facility, kill the personnel on duty and seize their weapons.

Security operatives subsequently combed the surrounding area in an effort to track down the fleeing attackers, but no arrests were made.

The command said no casualty was recorded in the incident. However, the attackers allegedly set fire to a block within the security base and a patrol van, destroying both facilities.

The Oorelope Local Government Command said investigations and security operations were ongoing, with further details expected to be released.

Meanwhile, attempts to obtain comments from the Commander of Operation Burst in Oyo State, Col. Olayinka Olayanju (rtd.), were unsuccessful, as the available telephone numbers could not be reached at the time of filing the report.
