Nigeria’s Ambassador-designate to Mexico, Reno Omokri, has said President Bola Tinubu has no criminal record with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in the United States.

Omokri said the records the FBI may have on Tinubu are routine personal and biometric information, including DNA, blood group and fingerprints, which he claimed are similar to records held on other people who have undergone U.S. visa or background-check processes.

Speaking on Sunday Politics on Channels Television, Omokri argued that claims that the FBI possesses criminal records on the Nigerian president were being promoted by opposition politicians to mislead Nigerians.

According to him, the United States government and the FBI have never declared that Tinubu has a criminal record.

“President Tinubu has no criminal record. These are FBI records which everybody has,” Omokri said.

He explained that people who apply to the U.S. Embassy and undergo biometric procedures may have their information captured and stored as part of the relevant security and identification processes.

Omokri also said Tinubu was reluctant to release his alleged FBI records because sensitive biometric information could potentially be cloned, manipulated or misused if it fell into the wrong hands.

His comments come amid renewed political debate over documents and information reportedly held by U.S. authorities concerning President Tinubu, with opposition figures calling for greater transparency over the matter.
