Content creator Adebayo Ridwan Abidemi, popularly known as Isbae U, has revealed how he came up with his popular interview series, Curiosity Made Me Ask, saying he wanted to create something different from skit-making.

Isbae U disclosed this during an interview with media personality Morayo Afolabi-Brown on The Morayo Show, which was shared on YouTube on Wednesday.

The content creator said he experimented with different forms of entertainment, including acting, singing and rapping, while trying to discover his niche.

According to him, he eventually decided he did not want to remain “part of the skit makers” and began searching for a concept that would distinguish him from others in the industry.

“I was just finding myself. I was at that process. Before that, I was singing, before that rapping. I was just finding myself,” he said.

Explaining how Curiosity Made Me Ask was conceived, Isbae U said he reached a point where he wanted to move away from being average and create something distinctive.

“There was a day I said to someone that I was done being mediocre, being average. I wanted to do something different. I didn’t want to just be considered part of them, part of the skit makers, one of them,” he said.

He said the idea was partly inspired by American comedian Zach Galifianakis’ interview series, Between Two Ferns.

“I saw a show that I used to watch a long time ago. It’s called Between Two Ferns by Zach Galifianakis. So when I saw the show, I loved it. I thought, ‘Oh, this is something I can do.’ Even though the guy didn’t even do it as much as I’m doing it now,” he said.

Since launching the series, Isbae U has interviewed several prominent personalities, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo, actor Pete Edochie and entertainer Charly Boy.

He explained that the concept was designed to reveal a different side of public figures rather than simply ask them conventional interview questions.

“The idea of Curiosity Made Me Ask is to show you another part of this celebrity you’ve not seen,” he said.

Isbae U also admitted that he often becomes nervous before interviewing older and more established personalities, although he said many of them have welcomed him and encouraged him to remain himself.

“Every time. Especially when it comes to people that are way older than me,” he said when asked whether he gets nervous before such interviews.

His recent interview with Obasanjo attracted significant attention online, with the former President becoming one of the latest high-profile figures to appear on the show.

Beyond Curiosity Made Me Ask, Isbae U said he continues to explore other forms of content and has been writing stories for other creators behind the scenes.

“A lot of people thought or think I have stopped creating and just doing Curiosity Made Me Ask. But low-key, there are people I write stories for, people I help with their stories,” he said.

He added that he plans to continue creating and exploring new forms of content in the future.
