A 43-year-old Nigerian-British businessman and social media influencer, Igho Ubiribo, has died following a penis enlargement procedure he underwent while on holiday in Thailand with his wife.

Ubiribo died in March after receiving 40 millilitres of hyaluronic acid and lidocaine at a clinic in Bangkok, according to evidence presented at an inquest at Inner West London Coroners’ Court.

According to the Daily Mail, Ubiribo began experiencing chest pain and lost consciousness twice while receiving a massage with his wife, Danielle Simba Allen, after the procedure.

He was rushed by ambulance to Sukhumvit Hospital, where doctors diagnosed him with a pulmonary embolism, a potentially life-threatening condition caused by a blood clot blocking a blood vessel in the lungs.

Ubiribo subsequently lost consciousness before doctors could perform a recommended CT scan. Medical personnel reportedly attempted to resuscitate him for more than 100 minutes, but he died in the early hours of March 6.

A postmortem examination conducted in the UK later found cellular material in his lungs that matched the hyaluronic acid used in the penile filler injection, supporting the diagnosis of a pulmonary embolism.

Coroner Jean Harkin concluded that Ubiribo died “as the result of a cosmetic procedure abroad”. His cause of death was recorded as a pulmonary embolism resulting from the injection of hyaluronic acid into the penis.

Ubiribo, who reportedly had about 185,000 followers on Instagram, was buried in London in May. His funeral was attended by Nigerian music star Davido and other prominent personalities.

Medical experts have previously warned about the potential risks associated with penile filler procedures. Professor Vaibhav Modgil, an NHS andrology specialist and consultant urological surgeon, said complications from such procedures could have devastating consequences for patients.
