One of Nigeria’s leading Fuji musicians, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as Kwam 1, has brokered a peace deal between the National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, and the Lagos State Chairman of the union, Mustapha Adekunle, aka Tafa Sego.

The reconciliation took place at Ojusagbola in Ijebu, Ogun State, with several NURTW chieftains in attendance.

The development was announced on Tuesday through Kwam 1’s digital media page on Instagram, where photographs from the meeting were shared.

According to the post, the two NURTW chieftains had finally resolved their differences after years of disagreement.

“After years of an age-long rift, MC Oluomo and Tafa Sego have finally settled their differences. And from what we know now, this is final,” the post stated.

It added that Kwam 1 intervened in his capacity as the Mayegun of Yorubaland to bring an end to the longstanding disagreement.

“K1 acted in his role as the Mayegun of Yorubaland by seeking an end to the long-standing rift, once and for all,” the post said.

The reconciliation comes after years of tension between MC Oluomo and Tafa Sego, who were previously allies within the Lagos NURTW.

Their disagreement has been linked to leadership struggles within the union, with both men emerging as prominent figures in the organisation.

The dispute previously spilled into public events.

In January 2019, MC Oluomo was among several people injured during violence at an All Progressives Congress campaign rally at the Sky Power Ground in Ikeja, Lagos.

PUNCH reported at the time that a supremacy battle involving supporters of MC Oluomo and Sego disrupted the rally, with MC Oluomo reportedly stabbed and taken to hospital. The police subsequently declared Sego wanted over the incident.

The two men were, however, later reported to have been part of the same NURTW leadership structure. In September 2019, PUNCH reported that Sego, despite having previously been declared wanted over the APC rally violence, was appointed to the caretaker committee of the NURTW led by MC Oluomo.

Tensions surrounding the Lagos chapter of the union resurfaced in subsequent years, particularly over leadership and control of its operations.

In January 2024, MC Oluomo resigned as chairman of the Lagos State chapter of the NURTW amid a power struggle that PUNCH reported had the potential to escalate into a wider conflict among transport unions.

A meeting facilitated by the then Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and other government officials subsequently led to changes in the union’s leadership structure, with MC Oluomo stepping aside as Lagos chairman.

The latest reconciliation effort also follows a fresh public display of tension between the two camps at Kwam 1’s New Year All White Party in Lagos on January 2, 2026.

A video from the event showed members associated with Sego’s faction reacting after Kwam 1 publicly recognised MC Oluomo as the head of the NURTW. The incident reportedly caused a commotion at the event, after which the Fuji musician appealed to the NURTW leaders to unite.

The latest meeting at Ojusagbola therefore brings the two men together again in an intervention facilitated by the same musician whose event had earlier provided a public setting for renewed tension.

The Kwam 1 digital media page said both parties were pleased with the development, describing the latest meeting as a final resolution of their longstanding disagreement.

“This time, it was not just another handshake for the cameras. The two old friends and colleagues came together at Ojusagbola, with King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (K1) playing the peacemaker,” the post stated.

The development marks a fresh attempt to end the longstanding disagreement between the two NURTW figures and restore unity among their supporters.
