Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has described All Progressives Congress (APC) governors as “politically lazy” over their opposition to his Rainbow Coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Wike made the comment during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Tuesday.

The former Rivers State governor said his decision to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid does not mean he has abandoned his political party or believes other political parties should not field candidates in the 2027 elections.

His remarks followed a recent position by APC governors, led by the Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, that they would not support or endorse any alliance capable of undermining Tinubu’s re-election bid or affecting APC candidates.

Reacting to the governors’ position, Wike said: “They are politically lazy. When you have your local problems, don’t use Mr President as your excuse.”

Wike maintained that his disagreements with some political actors did not begin with his decision to support Tinubu.

According to him, he faced opposition from some quarters both when he was governor of Rivers State and later when he became Minister of the FCT.

“This thing did not start today. It started at a ministerial position. They were not happy that I was Minister of FCT. Also, they were unhappy when I was governor,” he said.

Wike further argued that he had a deeper understanding of the political situation because of information available to him, suggesting that some of his critics would better understand his position if they had access to the same information.

The minister’s comments come as political alignments and alliances continue to take shape ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
