Iyabo Obasanjo Appoints Macjob as Media Aide - The Alternative News

Gbolahan Macjob, a former senior journalist with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), has been appointed spokesperson to former senator Iyabo Obasanjo.

The appointment was announced in a statement issued by Obasanjo’s media office and shared with PUNCH Online on Monday.

According to the statement, Macjob is expected to leverage his journalism and media experience to communicate Obasanjo’s positions, activities and public engagements.

“His professional profile and published work indicate experience in broadcast journalism, including contributions to BBC reporting,” the statement said.

It added that the appointment came amid renewed political activity involving Obasanjo, the daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Iyabo Obasanjo represented Ogun Central Senatorial District from 2007 to 2011 and previously served as Ogun State Commissioner for Health.

She later pursued an academic career in the United States before returning to active politics in 2026, according to the statement.

The statement noted that Macjob’s appointment would place media communication at the centre of Obasanjo’s public engagements, with his experience in news gathering and broadcasting expected to support communication across traditional and digital platforms.

It also highlighted the growing movement of professionals with experience in international media organisations into Nigeria’s political communication space, where public figures increasingly rely on strategic messaging and timely engagement with the media.

Beyond journalism, Macjob also has experience in filmmaking, which the statement said could contribute to the development of the creative sector in Ogun Central.

“In addition to his journalistic experience, Macjob, also a filmmaker, brings his expertise in the creative sector, Nigeria’s second-largest employer after agriculture and one he’d be keen to scale up across Ogun Central,” the statement read.
