Kano Community Leader Found Dead in Shallow Grave Days After Bandits Abducted Him - The Alternative News

Alhaji Ahmad Yakubu Ahmad, the Village Head of Aujarawar Alkali in Gezawa Local Government Area of Kano State, has been found dead days after he was abducted by suspected bandits during a night attack on the community.

Ahmad, popularly known as Ruwata, was reportedly abducted on Thursday night, September 17, 2026, when heavily armed assailants invaded the community and whisked him away to an undisclosed location.

His body was later discovered in a shallow grave at Danladin Gezawa, triggering grief and concern among residents.

According to security updates shared on X by security analyst Bakatsine (@DanKatsina50), the traditional ruler's body was recovered following his abduction, while his funeral prayer was held at about 3pm on Wednesday.

A resident of the community also confirmed the killing. However, the Kano State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement on the incident as of the time of filing this report.

The abduction was first reported on September 18, when Bakatsine disclosed that armed bandits had invaded Aujarawar Alkali the previous night and abducted the village head.

The incident heightened concerns among residents, who questioned how armed criminals could invade the community at night and abduct a traditional ruler. They also called on security agencies to intensify efforts to protect lives and property.

However, days after the abduction, the discovery of Ahmad's body in a shallow grave brought a tragic end to hopes of securing his release.

The killing adds to growing security concerns in parts of northern Nigeria, where armed groups have continued to abduct residents, target community leaders and attack rural settlements.

Traditional rulers often serve as intermediaries between local communities and government authorities, making attacks on them a major concern for residents and local leadership structures.

The circumstances surrounding Ahmad's killing remain unclear, including whether a ransom was demanded and whether security agencies made any efforts to secure his release.

The Kano State Police Command had yet to publicly comment on the reported killing or announce any arrests in connection with the incident.

Residents are awaiting an official response from the authorities on the circumstances surrounding the traditional ruler's abduction and death, as well as measures to prevent further attacks in the area.
