Laide Bakare Rejects Eniola Badmus’ Public Apology, Calls It ‘Fake’ - The Alternative News

Nollywood actress Laide Bakare has rejected her colleague Eniola Badmus’ public apology, describing it as “fake”.

Bakare, in an Instagram post on Tuesday, issued a two-word response, “fake apology”, hours after Badmus apologised over her reaction to Bakare’s name during a recent interview.

The controversy began after a video from Badmus’ appearance on Isbae U’s interview show, Curiosity Made Me Ask, circulated online. In the video, Badmus appeared to shrug and change her facial expression when the host mentioned Bakare among his favourite actresses.

Bakare subsequently reacted angrily, describing Badmus as a “nuisance” and accusing her of repeatedly attempting to damage her reputation publicly.

“Nuisance ni lady yi sha! Must you always damage my character publicly? Several times I have warned you to stop, but since you have decided to bring me down at all costs, you will surely hear from me,” she wrote on Instagram.

She also accused Badmus of ingratitude, claiming she had played a significant role in her colleague’s rise.

“See your facial expressions at the mention of your biggest benefactor’s name? Omo ale. That helped you to grow in life. Honestly, you are indeed an ingrate, and I won’t let this slide,” Bakare said.

In response to the backlash, Badmus issued a public apology, acknowledging that her reaction during the interview might have appeared dismissive.

“On reflection, I realise my reaction when Laide Bakare’s name was mentioned during my recent interview could have come across as dismissive, and for that, I sincerely apologise,” she wrote.

Addressing Bakare directly, the actress said she preferred peace despite their differences and wished her colleague well.

“Laide, whatever our differences, I choose peace and I genuinely wish you well,” she added.

Badmus also emphasised the importance of personal growth and moving beyond past disagreements.

“We’re all growing, learning and becoming better versions of ourselves. Sometimes maturity is simply knowing when to let go and move forward.

“Joo maa binu. No negativity. No grudges. Let love lead and peace reigns,” she concluded.

However, Bakare’s subsequent description of the apology as “fake” suggests that Badmus’ public expression of regret has not resolved the disagreement between the two actresses.
