Madonna University Expels Nursing Students Over Viral ‘Offensive’ Hospital Video - The Alternative News

Madonna University Nigeria has expelled some nursing students over a viral video recorded at a hospital, prompting the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) to appeal to the university management to reconsider the punishment.

The students reportedly faced disciplinary action after a video they recorded in the hospital surfaced online and attracted widespread attention.
The video was accompanied by the caption, “No sick oo, nah Gen Z full hospital.”

The National Association of Nigerian Students acknowledged that the students’ conduct was inappropriate but appealed to the university to replace the expulsion with a stern warning and other corrective measures.

The students’ action was reportedly considered misconduct, but NANS urged the institution to take into account the potential impact of the expulsion on their education and future careers.

The affected students are nursing undergraduates whose training involves clinical postings and hospital-based learning.

In its appeal, NANS urged Madonna University to show clemency and allow the students to continue their studies under strict disciplinary conditions.

The association suggested that the students could be required to sign undertakings not to repeat the conduct and face further disciplinary action if they violate the conditions.

NANS said the punishment should be corrective rather than permanently disrupting the students’ academic careers.

The incident has also renewed concerns about students’ use of social media, particularly the recording and publication of videos from sensitive environments such as hospitals.

The university had yet to publicly announce whether it would review the expulsion or accept the students’ appeal.
