The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a man, identified as Zayyanu Halilu, for allegedly raping and impregnating a 12-year-old girl.

The command said its Anti-Kidnapping Unit made the arrest on October 2, 2026, during a routine patrol around the Airport Bridge Taxi Park.

According to the FCT Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, officers became suspicious after noticing a fully tinted navy-blue Volkswagen vehicle, with registration number KMC567LQ, parked at the location with its windows wound up.

She said the vehicle was also observed to be shaking, prompting the officers to approach and inspect it.

“The officers, suspecting foul play, approached the vehicle and opened it, only to see one Zayyanu Halilu raping a twelve (12) year old minor,” Adeh said.

The suspect was immediately arrested, while the victim was rescued.

The police said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect had allegedly lured and sexually abused the girl on several occasions in the same vehicle at the location, while threatening to “deal with her” if she disclosed the abuse to anyone.

A medical examination reportedly showed that the victim was approximately three months pregnant.

The police said the girl is currently receiving medical care and undergoing further assessment, while the suspect remains in custody and will be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.

The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and pay close attention to the whereabouts, safety and welfare of their children and wards.
