Civil servants need to continue to learn new trends of doing things to remain relevant and productive in their service delivery.
Commissioner for Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr. Adebola Sofela stated this during an in-house Training on "Speech/Memo Writing and Office Practices and Etiquette" organised by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment at its Conference Room, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr. Olu. Ola. Aikulola, the Commissioner said learning through continuous training is essential in view of evolving nature of challenges which require new strategies.
"Without training we can easily become stale and will be using strategies of yester years to tackle evolving and emerging challenges of today and it is not going to work. If you want a different result you have to do things differently. That underscores the need for training from time to time," Sofela said.
The Commissioner noted that the training was organised to help workers improve on their productivity and also complement the efforts of Governor Dapo Abiodun on consistently building capacity of workers in the State.
Speaking on the focus of the training, Sofela said the hallmark of any good Officer is the ability to speak and write well urging the participants to develop themselves and continue to improve while also noting that the Ministry would monitor the progress of the participants.
In her lecture presentation titled, "Office Practice and Etiquette", Permanent Secretary, Ogun State Civil Service Commission, Mrs. Roseline Jacobs said it is important for work environment to be made conducive for productivity of workers adding that employees and team members should contribute their quota to the actualisation of management goals by being punctual, dressing well, communicating effectively and efficiently managing time among other suggestions.
In his presentation on "Speech/Memo Writing", Director, Administration and Supplies, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Mr. Tope Balogun stated that speech and memo writers will do well by being indepth thinkers with a sense of flexibility in accommodating changes and the willingness to embrace critical but relevant ideas of others.
Also speaking, two participants at the training, Senior Geologist, Mr. Sunday Sesinu and Chief Executive Officer, Mrs. Sharon Edun lauded the Ministry for regularly organising different capacity building sessions noting that they had learn strategies which would aid the discharge of their duties.
