The need for revenue generating agencies of government to achieve voluntary compliance on payment of taxes for national development, has been emphasised.
Executive Chairman, Ogun State Internal Revenue Service (OGIRS), Mr. Olugbenga Olaleye, said this, while receiving a team from Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), led by its Director, Government Business Department, Alhaji Mohammed Atiku in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Mr. Olaleye noted that both agencies were working towards generating revenue for national development, adding that the step would bring revenue leakages to the barest minimum.
"We are all in the same area of operation; it is a matter of somebody being sub-national and another at the national. There is no issue of either one being inferior or otherwise", he said.
He pledged OGIRS’ robust relationships with agencies, in order to serve as a catalyst in the drive to increase revenue generation for the country.
On her part, Director, Other Taxes, OGIRS, Mrs. Oluyomi Dawodu, commended the team for the visit, saying Ogun would leverage on the collaboration, to improve revenue generated into government coffers.
Earlier, Alhaji Atiku pointed out that the agency was responsible for assessing, collecting and accounting for taxes due to the Federal government, promising to continually engage in building sustainable partnerships with all key stakeholders, to achieve the mandate.
