Southern Governors' Forum has elected Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State as Chairman and the Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Charles Soludo as Vice Chairman.

They took the decision after a meeting held at the Presidential lodge, Ibara housing, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos and who also doubled as Chairman of Southwest Governors’ Forum, announced Abiodun’s emergence after a closed door meeting which lasted for about five hours.

Other Governors who are present include; Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti), Alex Otti (Abia), Godwin Obaseki (Edo), Ademola Adeleke (Osun), Bassey Otu (Cross River), Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom), Charles Soludo (Anambra) and Francis Nwifuru (Ebonyi), Peter Mbah (Enugu) and Douye Diri (Bayelsa).

Also on ground are, Deputy Governors, Chinyere Ekomaru (Imo) and Monday Onyeme (Delta), Olayide Adelami (Ondo).

Abiodun replaced late Rotimi Akeredolu, former Governor of Ondo State, who was the chairman of the forum until his demise.

The forum has not elected a new chairman after Akeredolu’s death in December, 2023. 

It was reported that sixteen governors attended the meeting.
