NSF: OGSG Poised To Discover Talents At ValueJet SWAN Security Cup- THE ALTERNATIVE NEWS


The Ogun State government has assured its readiness to discover talents at the 4th edition of the ValueJet Swan Security Cup Competition who will represent the state at National Sports Festival in January, 2025.


The event will kick-off from Thursday,1st August to Saturday,10th August, 2024.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Sports Development, Mr. Lanre Ogunyinka made this known during the draws ceremony held on Friday at the MKO Abiola International Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta, reaffirming the State government's commitment to sports development.

Ogunyinka assured that top coaches from the State Sports Council would be part of the competition to identify and nurture talents to represent the State in major competitions.





He reiterated that the State government's position as host of the forthcoming National Sports Festival would lead to further sports development in the State, emphasizing government's dedication to improving existing facilities at various stadia and organizing the best event in the Festival's history. 

He, however, called for continued support from Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) for the successful media coverage of the country's biggest sporting event next year.




The Chairman of SWAN, Ogun State Chapter, Mr. Michael-Azeez Ogunsiji, stated that the competition aims to strengthen unity and friendship among the security agencies. 

Ogunsiji expressed gratitude to ValueJet Airline for sponsoring the fourth edition of the annual football competition and urged other corporate organisations and philanthropists to emulate the airline's support to make the tournament even bigger.

Lending her voice, the Head of Marketing at ValueJet Nigeria, Uchechi Achomadu, noted that the airline, a leading brand in Nigeria's aviation industry with regular flights to five states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja, is proud to be the official sponsor of the competition. 




She announced branded jerseys for the four teams reaching the semi-final stage and a cash prize of one million naira for the eventual winners, reaffirming ValueJet's commitment to the competition's success.




Also speaking, the General Manager of Gateway United Football Club, Mr. Niyi Soleye, praised SWAN's leadership for sustaining the competition over the previous three editions.




At the final of the draws, the defending champions, Police Machine were drawn in Group A, to play against the tough side, Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun State Fire Service and debutants, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC). 




In Group B of the competition, Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), last year’s finalists, Nigeria Security Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and debutants, Economic and Financial Crime Commissions (EFCC) in preliminary round of matches beginning from Thursday August 1, 2024.
