As part of the activities marking the 2024 Ijemo Day celebration and the 110th anniversary of the Ijemo massacre of 1914, no fewer than 500 people have benefited from a medical outreach to ensure the well-being and wellness of the people.
The event, which took place at Ijemo Township Hall, Ijemo, Abeokuta, witnessed people trooping out in large numbers from different locations of Abeokuta and its environs to benefit from the medical outreach.
Speaking at the event, the Aro of Egba land and Oluwo of Ijemo, Chief Yinka Kufile, stated that the wellness and well-being of the people is paramount, confirming that he was impressed by the large turnout of the people.
Kufile enjoined the Ijemo indigenes, both at home and abroad, to remain steadfast and hardworking to enable them to attain greater heights, urging them to always support government programs and activities as they cannot do it alone.
Lending his voice, the Medical Director of Oba Ademola Maternity Hospital, Ijemo Abeokuta, who also doubled as Head of the Medical team at the event, Dr. Gabriel Olugbenga, said that the purpose of the outreach was to ensure that people live a healthy life, advising beneficiaries to administer the drugs given to them as prescribed by the healthcare workers.
Olugbenga advised the participants to key into the Ogun State Health Insurance Scheme (OGHIS), as it would be beneficial to their well-being, especially by safeguarding them against catastrophic healthcare expenditure that could occur suddenly.
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Olatundun Jooda, appreciated the Ijemo Council of Chiefs for deeming it fit to organize the outreach, as it would do a lot of good for their health.
In the same vein, 20 students who are Ijemo indigenes have benefited from Educational Support Scheme scholarships organized by the Ijemo Council of Chiefs in collaboration with J.K. Integrated Farms.
Addressing the beneficiaries, the Chairman, Central Planning Committee of the event, Chief Anthony Oyewole Oyero, described the initiative as necessary to encourage the young ones in Ijemo and to help them in their educational careers.
Oyero urged the students to be focused, determined, and good ambassadors of Ijemo, enjoining them to always demonstrate a sense of belonging and concentrate on their studies.
Speaking on behalf of the other beneficiaries, Mr. Precious Sotayo expressed gratitude to the organizers, promising to be diligent in their studies and come out with flying colors after the examination.
