Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has pledged support for the new film "Lisabi," which is set to hit Netflix soon.
Governor Abiodun gave the pledge when he hosted an artist, Lateef Adedimeji and his wife, Adebimpe, at the Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, charging theatre practitioners in the country to take on the vital responsibility of educating the younger generations about the remarkable sacrifices made by past heroes.
He emphasised that youths would be deeply inspired by figures like Lisabi when their stories were portrayed on the big screen.
In an interview after the meeting with the governor, Adedimeji expressed gratitude for the productive discussions, highlighting the governor's encouragement to bring impactful stories of historical heroes to the cinema.
He revealed plans for a film village and resort centre in Abeokuta, adding that his vision was to ensure that stories of the state's heroes were shot within the state.
"We are here because Ogun is my state; it is where I am from. We have made a movie that has to do with one of our heroes, 'Lisabi Agbogbon Akala,' and it is coming to Netflix on September 27.
"We thought it would be best to have a premiere in Ogun State since it is an Ogun State story. I know that the governor is always ready to support such initiatives and is eager to involve himself with stories that relate to our culture and traditions.
"We have our own film village in Ogun State that we are already building, and we would be willing to seek the government's support for the film village to see how much we can develop there. This will allow us to bring entertainment from other places into Ogun State, thereby creating a flow of people coming to the film village to see what we have, shoot their own films and explore what Ogun State has to offer.
"It is high time we established this in Ogun State. There are so many stories we can tell, stories of our heroes. It would not be right to hear that we are shooting the stories of our heroes elsewhere, which is why we are creating our own film village right here, located after OGTV, Mile 6, Ajebo Road", he said.
