Ogun State Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, has emphasised the need for Information and Public Relations Officers working in agencies of government to acquaint themselves with vision of the state government, in order to project its activities appropriately to the public.
Mr. Onasanya stated this at the closing ceremony of a two-day training for Information and Public Relations Officers, with the theme, "Upscaling Public Information Management Through Strategic Public Relations", organised by the Bureau of Establishments and Training, in conjunction with Ottocom International, at Obas’ Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
He mentioned the significance of feedback mechanism in information dissemination to assist government in bridging the gap between government and the people, urging participants to apply the knowledge gained from the training in their daily work, with a view to ensuring improved service delivery in information management.
The Head of Service expressed appreciation to the state Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for his continuous support through capacity building for the participants, acknowledging the robust presentation of the facilitators.
In his lecture titled, “Experience Sharing”, a retired Permanent Secretary/Clerk of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Barr. Demola Badejo, highlighted the importance of character building for Information and Public Relations managers, explaining that, "a person’s character is not determined by social standing or wealth, but by their commitment to honesty, justice and the public good".
Barr. Badejo added that officers must be mindful of their value of self-reliance and personal responsibility, noting that individuals should cultivate a good character through education and moral reflection, towards improving their lives, thereby contributing positively to the society.
Three of the participants, Oluwakemi Ogungbade, Ayoola Obadimu and Dokunmu Tuwase, who expressed gratitude to the government for the training, described it as apt and paradigm shift in information dissemination of government activities, promising to be alive to their responsibilities.
Highlight of the event was the presentation of Certificates of Participation to participants.
