The Ogun State Government, has placed Oba AbdulSemiyu Adewale Ogunjobi, the Olorile of Orile-Ifo, in the Ifo Local Government Area of the State, on suspension for six months, over an unacceptable assault on one of his subjects.
A release made available to newsmen by the State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Honorable Ganiyu Hamzat, categorically denounced the actions of the Oba as uncivil, not befitting of the status of an oba.
The release affirmed that the decision was reached after the Kabiyesi and his victim were invited by the Honorable Commissioner, for interrogation.
This became imperative, as a result of the wreckless utterances and public misconduct of the Kabiyesi, as evident in the video that went virile on Social Media, that has brought the institution of Obaship into disrepute.
“After initial investigations conducted on the matter, the Kabiyesi has been suspended, and stripped of the paraphernalia of the stool of Orile-Ifo, pending the determination of his culpability or otherwise on the allegation”.
“The foregoing decision was reached by the ministry, in conjunction with the Egba Traditional Council, in accordance with Section 52(1) of the Obas and Chiefs’ Law of Ogun State 2021.”
“The Ogun State Government will not condone any acts of indignity on any of its citizens by anybody, no matter how highly placed”, the Commissioner stated.
