Community Development Councils have been charged to refrain from erecting structures along flood plains, under power-lines and on drainage channels, while also reporting such illegal developments in their areas as the last line of defense for enforcing the "build right agenda" of the State.
This charge was given by the Acting General Manager, Ogun State Planning and Development Permit Authority (OGPDPA), TPl. Itunu Jolaoluwa during sensitisation visits to Mowe and the Obafemi Owode Zonal CDC Executive meeting, both in the Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of the State.
TPl. Jolaoluwa, who emphasised that obtaining planning permits was for the security and benefit of land and home owners, said the communities would bear the brunt of haphazard development if they permit such in their areas.
"Do not look away while people are building without drainages or setbacks, or when they are building under high tension wires or on water ways. Reporting such illegality will help government avert issues like flooding, while also protecting the future and value of properties in your areas," Jolaoluwa stated.
Speaking, Director, district and local plans department, TPl. Adedayo Olowolagba revealed that a large number of building plans of people who keyed into the Homeowners Charter had not been collected, directing those with all relevant documents and evidence of payment to approach the Zonal Town Planning Offices for collection of their building plans or the OLARMS Desk office, Bureau of Lands and Survey, for confirmation of the status of their application.
Responding, Chairman of the Mowe CDC, Mr. Samuel Asaolu appreciated government for the sensitisation, noting that they would cascade the information down to the grassroot for better compliance.
