President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is open to welcoming Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), into its ranks whenever he chooses to officially join the ruling party.

Tinubu made the statement on Wednesday while commissioning the Arterial Road N16 (Shehu Shagari Way), linking Ring Road One (Nnamdi Azikiwe Way) to Arterial Road N20 (Wole Soyinka Road), as well as other completed road projects in the Katampe District of Abuja.

 “The APC is open to receiving Wike whenever he decides to join us,” the President said. “With Wike, APC will continue to be in a joyous mood, and the opposition will continue to writhe in pain.”

Wike, a prominent figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has long been at the center of political speculation over a possible defection to the APC. Despite serving in a PDP-led administration as Governor of Rivers State, he was appointed FCT Minister by the APC-led federal government, fueling rumors of a potential political shift.

The PDP has been embroiled in internal crises since the lead-up to the 2023 general elections, with unresolved leadership disputes and factional divisions.

President Tinubu’s comments may further heighten tensions within the PDP and add momentum to speculation about Wike’s next political move.
