Suspected bandits have launched a deadly attack on Tadurga village in Zuru Local Government Area of Kebbi State, killing scores of residents and abducting several others. 

The attack occurred on Monday night, plunging the community into mourning and fear.

Eyewitnesses say the armed assailants arrived in large numbers, firing indiscriminately, looting shops, rustling livestock, and unleashing widespread panic.

“They came en masse, shooting indiscriminately. They broke into shops, looted goods, killed many people, abducted others, and made away with our cattle,” a resident, Audu Sule, recounted.

He noted that the scale of the attack was unprecedented in recent times, calling it the deadliest assault since Governor Nasir Idris assumed office.

Another local, Abdullah Zuru, lamented the incident but acknowledged that the Zuru Emirate had enjoyed relative peace prior to the attack due to the state government's security efforts.

“Despite this latest assault, we must acknowledge that the area had seen a return to normalcy, with farmers going back to their fields and recording a bumper harvest,” Zuru said.

As of the time of filing this report, the spokesperson of the Kebbi State Police Command, Nafiu Abubakar, had not responded to inquiries regarding the incident.
