El-Rufai: Tinubu’s Re-election in 2027 is Impossible - The Alternative News

Former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has no realistic chance of winning re-election in the 2027 general election.

Speaking in an interview shared on social media platform X, El-Rufai, now a chieftain of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), asserted that any belief in Tinubu’s return to power reflects a disconnect from Nigeria's political reality.

“Anybody that thinks it is possible for President Bola Tinubu to get re-elected is living in another country, not Nigeria,” he said. “It is impossible for Bola Tinubu to get re-elected.”

El-Rufai, a former ally of the president, cited growing public discontent with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the impact of the administration’s economic policies. He claimed that even the weakest opposition candidate would defeat Tinubu, adding that "there is no pathway" for his re-election.

While President Tinubu’s administration continues to assure citizens that current economic reforms will yield positive outcomes, critics like El-Rufai argue that Nigerians have lost faith in the APC and its leadership.

Minister of Information Mohammed Idris recently defended the administration’s record, insisting during a Channels TV interview that Tinubu's policies are setting the economy on a long-term growth trajectory.

El-Rufai, however, dismissed the ongoing wave of defections to the APC, describing those leaving other parties for the ruling party as either opportunists or individuals seeking protection from anti-graft agencies like the EFCC and ICPC.

“It is greedy and hungry politicians and those that are looking for money, contract, appointment, office that are defecting,” he said.

El-Rufai emphasized that the SDP and its coalition are focusing directly on the electorate, predicting a decisive battle between the APC and the Nigerian people in 2027.

He is reportedly aligning with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, and other political heavyweights to lead an anti-Tinubu coalition aimed at ousting the current administration through democratic means.
