President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has cancelled the earlier scheduled national broadcast to mark June 12 Democracy Day, citing a scheduling adjustment.
According to a statement from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), the President will now deliver his Democracy Day address from the National Assembly, where he is expected to attend a special Joint Session on Thursday morning.
An initial notice had indicated that the President would address the nation via a national broadcast. However, a follow-up statement signed by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Segun Imohiosen, announced the change of plan.
“Due to H.E President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s scheduled attendance at the National Assembly Joint Session, the Presidential National Broadcast on June 12 has been cancelled,” the statement read.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will deliver his address from the National Assembly. All other plans are in order as announced earlier.”
The June 12 Democracy Day commemorates the annulled 1993 presidential election, widely regarded as Nigeria’s freest and fairest poll, believed to have been won by Chief MKO Abiola.
