JUST IN: Former Vice President Namadi Sambo Joins APC Amid PDP Turmoil - The Alternative News

Former Nigerian Vice President Namadi Sambo has officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), in what is being seen as a major political development ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Sambo, who served as Vice President from 2010 to 2015 under the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan, was formally welcomed into the ruling party on Wednesday by Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, during a reception held at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House in Kaduna.

His defection adds to the growing list of high-profile departures from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in recent months, a trend fueled by:Persistent internal wrangling, Factional divisions and Unresolved leadership disputes.

Sources close to the party have noted that Sambo’s decision reflects a broader dissatisfaction among senior PDP figures with the party’s direction and internal handling of post-2023 issues.

Sambo's switch to the APC is expected to:Strengthen APC’s influence in Kaduna State and the Northwest zone, Signal a possible shift among moderate PDP stakeholders seeking political stability,
Intensify pressure on PDP leaders to resolve ongoing crises or risk further erosion of party structure ahead of 2027.

The PDP has been under immense strain following its loss in the 2023 general elections, with repeated calls for reforms, unity, and clearer leadership. The party’s inability to resolve internal divisions has provided fertile ground for the APC to absorb disgruntled members and build momentum.
