JUST IN: Senator Imasuen Dumps Labour Party for APC in Edo - The Alternative News

Senator Neda Imasuen, representing Edo South Senatorial District, has officially defected from the Labour Party (LP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing internal crises in the LP and the need to secure greater political relevance for his constituents.

The defection was formally announced on Wednesday during a Senate plenary, with Senate President Godswill Akpabio reading Imasuen’s letter of resignation.

“This decision follows extensive consultations with my constituents and stakeholders,” Imasuen wrote, adding that the move would position Edo South for “greater visibility and opportunities” under the ruling APC.

He cited irreconcilable internal conflicts and leadership challenges within the LP as critical reasons for his exit, saying they hindered his ability to deliver on governance promises.

Imasuen emphasized that his alignment with APC aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, promising that despite the switch, he remains committed to democratic principles and the welfare of his constituents.

His defection marks another blow to the Labour Party, which has been grappling with internal disputes and high-profile exits ahead of the 2027 general election
