The Kwara State Government has declared Thursday, June 26, 2025, as a public holiday in honor of the Islamic New Year, 1447 AH (Hijrah).
In a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Rafiu Ajakaye, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq congratulated Muslims in the state and across Nigeria on the arrival of the new Hijrah year. He urged reflection on the values of the Hijrah, including sacrifice, peace, and social justice.
"Governor AbdulRazaq has again approved that Thursday, the first day of Muharram 1447, be observed as a statewide holiday in commemoration of the new Islamic calendar," the statement read.
He also called for renewed commitment to peaceful coexistence, mutual respect, and dialogue, praying that the new year brings peace, abundance, and renewed faith to all.
