The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has announced the immediate suspension of its National Chairman, Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam, alongside Nze Nnadi Clarkson, National Auditor, and Uchechukwu Chukwuma, National Youth Leader, following serious allegations of financial impropriety.
This decision was made public in a statement issued on Tuesday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Araba Rufus Aiyenigba.
According to the statement, the suspensions were carried out in accordance with Articles 19.1, 19.3(i), and 19.5 of the SDP Constitution (2022 as amended), granting the NWC exclusive authority to act in matters concerning party discipline and integrity.
“The National Working Committee has approved the immediate suspension of the National Chairman and two other senior members over grave allegations of gross financial misconduct, including embezzlement, misappropriation, and diversion of party funds,” the statement read.
The NWC disclosed that a resolution was passed during its recent meeting after the presentation of overwhelming evidence linking the affected officials to unauthorized financial transactions, personal enrichment activities, and movement of funds without due approval.
This development occurs against a backdrop of growing tension within the party. Earlier on Tuesday, protests erupted at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja, with demonstrators pulling down the building’s main gate, an act believed to be linked to the deepening leadership crisis.
The party reaffirmed its commitment to internal accountability, emphasizing that the move is part of broader efforts to safeguard its core values and restore public trust as preparations intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
