Former Senator Shehu Sani has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reject the renaming of the Abuja International Conference Centre (ICC) in his honour, asserting that the iconic facility was built under the administration of former military President Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB).

The call comes after Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), on Tuesday announced the renaming of the centre to the “Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre” during the inauguration of its upgraded complex.

Wike also revealed that various halls within the facility had been renamed after other key figures in the current administration, including Vice-President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, and former Chief Justice Olukayode Ariwoola.

He said, “The International Conference Centre Abuja was built by IBB. The president should reject renaming the place with his name.” he wrote in a Facebook page.

The former lawmaker, known for his vocal stance on national issues, emphasized that historical landmarks should preserve the legacy of those who initiated or completed them.
