2027: Tinubu Can't Be Unseated Like Jonathan in 2015 – Akpabio Declares

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has declared that no political conspiracy will succeed in unseating President Bola Tinubu, insisting that the Niger Delta region is fully behind the President and will not allow a repeat of the 2015 scenario that led to the defeat of former President Goodluck Jonathan.

In a video clip seen by SaharaReporters, Akpabio emphatically stated that any attempt to dethrone the Tinubu administration through political realignment or opposition coalitions will fail.

“Let other people who are conspiring,  they did it before to Goodluck Jonathan. This time around, we are saying the entire South South region, the entire Niger Delta, will speak with one voice,”

“Do not think that anybody can become President without consultation with the Niger Delta. We have accepted President Bola Tinubu and found him fit to continue beyond 2027," Akpabio said.

He further expressed the region’s appreciation for the Tinubu administration’s recognition and inclusion, citing developmental efforts like the establishment of a University of Environment and Sciences in Ogoniland as evidence of the government's commitment to the region.

> “Forty-six years ago was the last time the Niger Delta produced a Senate President. This is a government that has recognised Niger Delta.
You are recognised when they take your resources and abandon your land. But today, the President is bringing development home.”

Akpabio's comments come amid heightened political activity ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the opposition making strategic moves to challenge Tinubu’s second-term bid.

The newly revived African Democratic Congress (ADC) has become a rallying point for high-profile political figures disenchanted with the current administration. As SaharaReporters previously reported, the ADC recently named former Senate President David Mark as protem national chairman and former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola as protem national secretary.

Prominent attendees at a recent ADC coalition meeting included former Rivers Governor Rotimi Amaechi, Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, former APC chairman John Oyegun, ex-Attorney General Abubakar Malami, and former governors Nasir El-Rufai, Liyel Imoke, and Aminu Tambuwal, among others.

Despite the growing momentum within the opposition bloc, the All Progressives Congress (APC) continues to express confidence in President Tinubu’s leadership, dismissing talk of unseating him as “wishful thinking.”

Akpabio concluded by reaffirming the South South region’s unwavering support for Tinubu.

“We are telling the President, on your mandate, we stand. No conspiracy formed against this government that has recognised Niger Delta shall prosper.”
