Former PDP Chieftain Leads Over 2000 PDP, LP Members To ADC In Lagos - The Alternative News

A Chieftain of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and House of Representatives candidate for Epe Federal Constituency, Hon. Noheem Balogun has defected to African Democratic Congress (ADC), with over 2000 members of its Party and Labour Party (LP), in Lagos.

The defection which took place at FAMCO Event Centre, Papa, Epe, Lagos state, drawn the presence of the ADC state Executive Committee and enthusiastic supporters from 19 wards across the Epe division of the council area of the state.

While addressing journalists, Hon. Balogun emphasized an urgent need for a new political direction in Lagos state, noting that the ADC is committed to the grassroots development, transparency, and people-centered governance.

“The people of Epe and Lagos state at large are yearning for genuine change, ADC offers the platform to actualise that dream. This movement is not just about politics, it’s about the future of our communities, development and generations yet to come,” Balogun stated.

He expressed concern about the declining internal structure of the PDP, attributing his defection to the party's lack of ideological direction, adding that the lack of internal integrity of the party (PDP) led him quitted for the ADC.

“The PDP is in complete disarray. It has lost its political compass. The ADC, on the other hand, is not just a party, it is a movement for good governance and a counterforce to the excesses of the ruling APC. We cannot continue to sit back and complain without participating in the process. That is why I joined the ADC,” he said.

Balogun cautioned against a one-party dominance in Nigeria’s political system, stressing that luring everyone into the APC would erode the democratic principle of checks and balances.

“It is unhealthy for our democracy to have everyone in one party. The ADC stands as a credible alternative that will hold the ruling party accountable and restore balances,” he noted.

Lending her voice, Mrs. Olusola Adamolekun, the former PDP Chairperson in Epe Local Government, called on women in the area to embrace the ADC as a pathway to ending widespread poverty and hardship.

“Women are the backbone of our society. We must rise and take part in this movement to secure a better future. I urge everyone who hasn’t obtained their PVCs to do so before the 2027 general election,” she advised.

Also speaking at the event, a notable political mobilizer in Epe, Mr. Babatunde Olanrewaju, described Hon. Balogun as a reliable and competent leader capable of galvanising support for transformative change.

He hailed the turnout across all wards in Epe as a clear message of discontent with the current administration.

“People are tired of empty promises. The massive turnout today reflects their hunger for real change, and ADC represents that hope,” Olanrewaju said.

The ADC Youth Leader in Epe, Engr. Ridwan Olabanjo, a former PDP member, pledged his full support for the ADC’s vision, expressing readiness to contribute meaningfully to the development of the area.

“ADC has what it takes to deliver and move this country forward. We are committed to driving change, starting from our grassroots communities,” Olabanjo affirmed.

The defection of these 2,000 members is regarded as a strategic milestone for ADC in the Lagos East Senatorial District, boosting its strength ahead of the next election cycle and establishing its presence as a formidable force in the political landscape of Lagos.
