ISWAP Militants Kill Immigration Officer, Torch Checkpoints in Niger State - The Alternative News

Suspected members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) launched deadly coordinated attacks on Saturday in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State, killing a Superintendent of Immigration and setting fire to security checkpoints.

Sahara reporters gathered that the assailants stormed the Luma-Sanke Immigration Patrol Outpost along the Babanna-Wawa road in large numbers, killing Officer Suleiman and reportedly burning his body along with his service weapon.

Simultaneously, another group of attackers targeted a Mobile Police checkpoint at Luma Ba’are, where several patrol vehicles, motorcycles, and private cars were set ablaze. While the full extent of casualties from the second attack remains unclear, the incident has thrown nearby communities into panic.

A second immigration officer, Ahmed, is currently missing, and efforts to locate him are ongoing.

Sources within the Nigeria Immigration Service described the situation as deteriorating, saying, “Terrorists are having a field day in the area.”

The Luma outpost, which lies near the Nigeria–Benin Republic border, is considered a strategic security location.

Niger State Police Command spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed that investigations are underway, but no official statement had been issued.

The twin attacks highlight escalating insecurity in border communities and raise fresh concerns over the growing operational reach of ISWAP in north-central Nigeria.
