Liverpool FC has confirmed that players will return to the AXA Training Centre on Tuesday, July 8, to begin pre-season training, following the tragic death of forward Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva in a car crash.
The duo were travelling across Spain en route to catch a ferry to Merseyside when their vehicle veered off the road due to a tyre blowout. The crash occurred in the early hours of Thursday, July 3.
In response, Liverpool postponed the original pre-season schedule, which was set to begin on July 4, allowing players time to grieve. Most of the squad attended the funeral in Gondomar, Portugal, on Saturday, July 5.
The Reds' first pre-season friendly, scheduled for Sunday, July 13, against Preston North End at Deepdale, remains uncertain. The club will decide on the match after players and staff return and are consulted regarding their readiness.
