In a politically significant move, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leadership caucus in Osun State has endorsed Governor Ademola Adeleke for a second term in 2026 and declared support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, despite Tinubu being a member of the rival All Progressives Congress (APC).
Governor Adeleke made the announcement on Tuesday via his official X (formerly Twitter) account after a strategic meeting with party stakeholders in Osogbo.
“I have been unanimously endorsed by the Osun PDP for a second term in 2026,” Adeleke stated, reaffirming loyalty to the PDP and gratitude for the party’s continued backing.
In a surprising cross-party endorsement, Adeleke revealed that the Osun PDP also backs President Tinubu’s 2027 bid, referring to him as “a proud son of our state.”
“Our party in Osun has also endorsed President @officialABAT for re-election in 2027,” the governor added.
The development comes amid rumors of Adeleke’s potential defection to the APC, which he indirectly addressed by reaffirming his PDP membership, while maintaining close political alignment with the president.
Earlier this month, the Osun PDP caucus publicly passed a vote of confidence in Adeleke, declaring it would support any political direction the governor chooses, even if that includes leaving the party.
This dual endorsement has stirred speculation about a possible strategic alliance or realignment between factions of the PDP and APC in Osun State ahead of the 2026 and 2027 elections. Some APC leaders have reportedly considered Adeleke’s defection as a way to consolidate political control in the state, though concerns persist over internal backlash within the APC.
Despite speculation, Adeleke has so far chosen to stay within the PDP fold—positioning himself as a bridge between local loyalty and federal influence.
