The Oyo State Government has approved a Homegrown Scheme of Service for the Community Nursing Superintendent and Midwifery cadres, covering Grade Levels 06 to 14 in the state’s civil and public service.
The announcement was made in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, who explained that the scheme aims to standardize career progression and enhance the quality of healthcare delivery at the grassroots level.
The move is part of the state government’s broader efforts to professionalize the roles of frontline health workers and improve community-based medical services.
Also speaking on the development, the Commissioner for Establishments and Training, Prof. Salihu Adelabu, described the approval as a significant step toward strengthening the healthcare workforce, particularly in underserved rural communities.
“This approval reflects the administration’s unwavering commitment to professionalizing community health services and retaining skilled healthcare providers at the grassroots,” Prof. Adelabu stated.
He added that the new scheme outlines a structured career path for officers within the cadres, with clearly defined responsibilities, qualifications, and promotional opportunities.
The scheme is expected to:Improve job satisfaction, Foster long-term retention of skilled personnel, and Enhance service delivery across primary healthcare centers
The approved cadres will be officially included in the 2025 Establishments Estimates for relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), ensuring proper budgeting, staffing, and deployment of personnel.
Prof. Adelabu also disclosed that implementation will begin immediately, with administrative coordination managed by the appropriate state bodies.
The government urged all officers in the newly recognized cadres to view the development as an opportunity for professional growth and renewed dedication to public service.
